FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. - Maj. Gen. Tony Carrelli, Pennsylvania’s adjutant general, delivered the keynote address and presented awards during the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve of Pennsylvania (ESGR) Employer Awards Luncheon, Aug. 8, 2019.
The ceremony provides an opportunity for Pa. National Guard to recognize and thank employers nominated by the Pennsylvania service members they employ.
The Pennsylvania committee for the ESGR received 200 nominations of employers, from which it selected 50 employers to recognize at the luncheon and three to submit for the prestigious SECDEF Freedom Award presented to only 15 employers nationally every year by the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon.
The three employers nominated for the 2019 Freedom Award from Pennsylvania are the Travis Manion Foundation, Penske Truck Leasing and U.S. Penitentiary, Lewisburg.
"Their support of their service members were truly above and beyond what is required by law.," said retired Maj. Gen. Wesley Craig, the Pa. State ESGR chairman. "This level of support is what ESGR encourages all American employers to provide and is a huge enabler when it comes to retention of the force."
